Social Justice Week in 2009 (13-19 September) calls for a new attitude to crime and punishment. Caritas has produced resources to help Catholic parishes, schools and youth groups – as well as the wider community – reflect on issues to do with criminal justice and reconciliation in Aotearoa New Zealand.
New Zealand Catholic Bishops Conference Statement: Revenge and reconciliation
The New Zealand Catholic Bishops Conference has also released a statement, in which they say restoration and reconciliation should be the key principles underpinning and guiding criminal justice, which would help create a safer society for everyone.
