Restorative justice White Paper: A ray of hope
Jun 30, 2009
From Elaine Attard's article in the Malta Independent Online: Lino* is not worried about his son James* not finding a job when he is
free from his prison sentence. He works hard on learning and gaining
new job skills. James hopes to acquire his remission and leave prison
as soon as possible to reunite with his family.
What James
doesn’t know is that his wife is not willing to accept him back home.
She could not cope with the crisis brought over by the fact that James
is in prison. She is in a state of rebellion, and has decided to return
the pain he caused her. Lino hopes that someone could help James.
Restorative justice includes several measures that set the ball rolling
for prison inmates to return to society. It addresses relapses,
reparation with victim and reintegration of inmates into society.
The white paper includes guidelines on the administration, procedures and support measures of reparative justice.
An electronic copy of the White Paper can be downloaded from www.mjha.gov.mt or from www.doi.gov.mt.
