About RJ Online

Restorative Justice Online is a service of the Prison Fellowship International Centre for Justice and Reconciliation. Its purpose is to be an authoritative, credible, non-partisan resource of information on restorative justice. The Restorative Justice Online editors have developed several features they hope will help users navigate the site.

RJOB: RJ Online Blog

RJOB was created in 2009 to provide a forum for timely information and commentary about restorative justice developments. RJOB entries include news items of interest as well as commentary by a group of engaging “correspondents” on various dimensions of restorative justice. It will offer a wide range of perspectives and information so that the regular reader is well-informed about restorative justice, the movement behind it, and the obstacles to its implementation.

User-Specific Navigation

Restorative Justice Online serves many different audiences from practitioners to law makers to university students. For that reason, the various site sections – seen in the tabs across the top – seek to answer questions often asked by the different audiences. For example, the “Legislative Assembly” tab provides information, news and resources needed by legislators, policy analysts, and others who are interested in incorporating restorative justice into public policy. The content describes the policy arguments for restorative justice as well as the issues it raises. It also provides and overview of outcome research as that relates to considerations about where and how to incorporate it into the criminal justice system. There are also links to inter-governmental policy documents on the use of restorative justice and to examples of legislation incorporating it into the justice system.

The “Press Room” tab on the other hand provides information about the history of restorative justice, the different forms it takes, what we know about its effectiveness, and stories of people who have participated in restorative processes. It also offers talking points on restorative justice and notable quotes on the topic.

Articles Database

The RJ Library contains over 9,500 (and counting) citations and abstracts for articles, books, technical documents, and other publications related to restorative justice. The entries are fully searchable by title, author, and all fields (including the abstract). Many of these are linked to full-text copies of the entries.
