The rights of victims of crimes are increasingly recognized, including the right to information and to reparation. Two projects are described which give the victims the opportunity to obtain information and/or reparation form the offender. This process is contrasted with traditional court procedure, which does not always treat victims well. Issues raised include how far victim/offender mediation can meet the needs of victims, offenders and justice; the need for careful planning is stressed.
