The authors present highlights from the first national victimization survey conducted in Australia. The results are generally similar to those obtained in the United States. There is strong support that victims and offenders share many characteristics. Implications for these findings include calling for studies of the victim/offender nexus. It is suggested that such studies could lead to the kind of paradigm shift that criminology needs.
