The author summarizes his personal experience in coming to be a proponent of restorative justice. Additionally, against the background of his identification of certain problems in current criminal justice systems, he sketches the following issues: changes in key theological and philosophical ideas behind restorative justice; key elements in the definition of restorative justice; the applicability of restorative justice to juvenile justice in particular; theoretical and ethical objections and concerns about restorative justice; practical concerns about restorative justice; some observations on punishment; and a consideration of whether crime victims want revenge.
