The authors of the this paper begin by pointing to the rise and significance of restorative justice. They note the importance of community and community dialogue in restorative justice theory and practice. However, according to the authors, the meaning and purpose of community dialogue have not been adequately examined; hence, community dialogue is the subject of this paper. Specifically, they address the following topics: the meaning and purpose of community participation in restorative justice theory; and restorative justice and contemporary democratic theory. To illustrate their analysis, the authors present a case study of a restorative justice program in Salt Lake City, Utah.
