Summary

Wachtel, Ted (2001). Dreaming of a New Reality: Welcoming Remarks Paper presented at "Dreaming of a New Reality," the Third International Conference on Conferencing, Circles and other Restorative Practices, August 8-10, 2002, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Ted Wachtel delivered the opening remarks to the Third International Conference on Conferencing, Circles and other Restorative Practices. In them he recounts the origin of the Community Service Foundation with its bases in restorative practices, and later the founding of the International Institute for Restorative Practices, of which he is president. He presents the device of a “social discipline windowâ€? to categorize approaches to social discipline in terms of punitive, permissive, neglectful, and restorative. From there he sketches various restorative practices, such as conferences and circles.
