In 1998 the Minnesota Legislature appropriated funds to the Department of Children, Families & Learning to implement and evaluate alternative approaches to suspensions and expulsions in several school districts. Each district put into practice a range of restorative practices and developed an evaluation plan to measure the impact in five areas: suspensions, expulsions, attendance, academics, and school climate. This report includes a summary of restorative activities in each district; challenges to program implementation; and recommendations for further evaluation efforts.
