Umbreit, Mark S (2000). Peacemaking and spirituality: A journey toward healing and strength Saint Paul, MN: University of Minnesota, School of Social Work, Center for Restorative Justice & Peacemaking

This paper describes values and guidelines for personal well-being and dealing with conflict and trauma. There are two main sections. The first, shorter section summarizes key principles for resolving interpersonal conflict. This includes a model for creating a “safe place‿ for conflict management. The second, longer section addresses peacemaking through humanistic mediation and spirituality. Umbreit explores a number of ideas in this section: key elements of humanistic mediation; mediation and peacemaking through dialogue; centering one’s self; mediation and healing; peacemaking circles; principles with respect to relationships, suffering, and spirituality; and pathways to self-care.
