Summary
-
Facilitating a restorative justice conference requires certain abilities and qualities. Tim Clarke, featured in this article, is a court-referred facilitator, mediator, and barrister in New Zealand. His experiences illuminate some of those abilities and qualities. He notes, for example, how vital it is for a facilitator to be able to understand the meaning behind what is being said by participants in a conference, to make participants feel safe in a conference, to approach a conference without preconceptions, and to understand and cope with the psychology and motivation of all the participants in a conference.
