Summary

Raye, Barbara and Wiese, Sue and Warner Roberts, Annie (2002). VOMA Assists Romanian Efforts to Establish Mediation Services VOMA Connections. Fall (15): 4.

According to the authors of this paper, there is no legislative framework in Romania to regulate and encourage the use of alternative conflict resolution services. Nevertheless, the Community Mediation and Safety Center (CMSC) in Iasi, Romania, has been offering mediation services since 2001. In view of the challenges in Romania, CMSC formed a partnership in 2003 with the Victim Offender Mediation Association (VOMA). The aim of the partnership is to develop Romania’s mediation capacity through new services, public awareness, and legislation on mediation. The authors discuss key components of this effort: training; media campaign; legislation; resources; and future projects for the partnership.
