An international conference was held in Winchester, England, March 28-31, 2001. The theme was "Restorative and Community Justice: Inspiring the Future." In this article Martin Wright reports on the conference. More than 500 participants from around the world attended. They represented a wide range of interest in and experience with restorative justice theory and practice. Many who attended and spoke or ran workshops are key figures in restorative justice (e.g., Howard Zehr and John Braithwaite). Wright summarizes some of the main ideas and practices considered during the course of the conference (e.g., restorative justice’s role in society at large, family group conferencing in New Zealand, the Youth Justice Board in England, restorative justice in schools in Australia, and examples of restorative justice efforts from other parts of the world).
