Summary

Achilles, Mary (1998). "Working Together: Victim Services and Victim Offender Mediation Programs." Office of the Victim Advocate.

Achilles addresses and identifies conflicts and misperceptions between victim’s advocates and victim offender mediation personnel. Advocates can view mediators as being “offender drivenâ€? instead of interested in the victim’s needs. And mediators may not understand and appreciate the critical contributions of victim service providers, who bring a broader understanding of victims’ needs, that make the practice of restorative justice genuine. She then recommends specific strategies for each party to pursue for developing a working relationship with the other.
