In this book, the authors analyse theories behind youth justice, and how these are reflected in Canadian legislation: the former Juvenile Delinquents Act and Young Offenders Act, and the new Youth Criminal Justice Act. The approaches used in New Zealand, Australia, and England are also considered as are several innovative projects to address youth justice issues. The voices of their young, disadvantaged, and often Aboriginal clients illustrate the very real human costs of doing nothing to change the current system. (Publisher’s abstract).
