For a number of reasons, from the moral to the financial, occupational health and safety (OHS) are major issues and concerns for governments, businesses, employees, and the public. John Braithwaite argues in this paper for a lateral approach to restorative and responsive regulation of OHS. He does so by making a number of propositions for credible regulation. The lateral aspect of his position has to do with the connections or links he draws between the propositions. After stating these propositions and substantiating a case for each, he goes on to describe the kind of restorative and responsive justice which might result from them. In general, a restorative justice approach to OHS would be based on collaborative problem-solving among employers, workers, the trade union movement, and government.
