In this paper we would like to look at restorative justice from a sociological, penological and moral point of view. First we try to understand how the growing attention for restorative justice can be understood in contemporary social and penal context. The second part of the paper focuses on how restorative and classical retributive principles in contemporary sentencing practice can be integrated. We will end with a brief outline of some proposals of Belgian sentencing reform which go in this direction. (excerpt).
