In the next two sections, I progressively mine our pretheoretical understanding of reconciliation to arrive at a core concept that at the same time suggests a way in which reconciliation might be pursued rather than on punishment, and grounds a response to moral qualms provoked by the use of an unanalyzed conception of reconciliation.
