This study reports on the use of Community Accountability Conferences, derived from Family Group Conferences (FGCs) of New Zealand, in two Queensland school regions from May 1995-May 1996. It was a way to deal with the most difficult school-based incidents, for example in cases of school bullying. Results indicate very high participant satisfaction (90%+). Initial and four month follow-ups produces high levels of victim felling safer and both victims and offenders reporting improved offender behavior and better relationships. Compliance with agreements was 96%. School administrators and parents expressed equally high levels of satisfaction with conferencing as a discipline process.
