This chapter provides an overview of the diversionary options available under the YOA. The first section describes key aspects of the operation of warnings, cautions and youth justice conferences. The second section focuses on issues of compliance with the guiding principles, rules and procedures of the Act. It discusses the challenge of accurately measuring compliance, identifies some key measures of compliance and, by reference to several research studies, describes emerging trends in relation to these indicators.
