This history addresses the rise of restorative justice practices in the US and Canada since the early 1970s. Too much has occurred to even briefly describe in a single chapter all the events leading to where we are. To manage the task, this chapter employs two strategies. First, I use a circumscribed definition of restorative justice to focus on specific practices. Second, I provide an extended time-line of events to augment brief descriptions in the text. (excerpt)
