With few notable exceptions, practitioners and students of restorative justice do not aim to transform structurally violent, unjust societies into structurally nonviolent, just ones. However, to fully recognize the philosophical principles of restorative justice, its practitioners and students would have to move beyond rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders and victims toward prevention of counter-violent tendencies and behaviors. To do so, they would have to include a ‘radical’ dimension in their practice and scholarship aimed at transforming structurally violent, unjust societies. (excerpt)
