"This chapter explores the question of the relationship between retribution and restoration from a religious persepctive. It focuses on the Judaeo-Christian tradition, for several reasons. First, most of the debate has taken place in the context of this tradition. Secondly, the Judaeo-Christian tradition has been highly influential in the development of Western understandings of criminal justice, and it is therefore worth considering conversation within that tradition that challenges or supports those understandings."
