Research over the last ten to fifteen years has produced many beginning efforts at theorizing what juvenile justice should look like for young women as well as many local and state initiatives designed to improve juvenile justice practice on behalf of this population. This study builds on existing literature giving voice to the desires and opinions of young women and exposing the justice systems' failures in addressing these needs, by exploring the process through which female responsive theory is translated into juvenile justice practice.
