"Restorative justice has also found a place within the adult criminal justice system. In chapter 5, Fred McElrea describes some of the many models of providing restorative justice for adults that developed in different communities throughout New Zealand during the 1990s. This chapter describes the legislative amendments in 2002 that have enabled the outcomes of restorative justice conferences to have a place in the adult court system, and the subsequent development of court-operated pilot projects for those appearing before the District Courts in selected areas."
