"The challenge both for churches and societies is, how do we counter a culture that accepts, even promotes, violence as a way to vent anger, address conflicts and wield power? How can we help individuals and families affected by domestic violence? How can we help perpetrators change their patterns of behaviour? What can Christians and our churches offer to society as our contribution to break this cycle of violence against the vulnerable - in this case, women and children? To what degree does language used within churches subtly, or not so subtly, somtimes give permission to those who abuse, and make it difficult for victims to reframe their plight?" (Abstract)
