"The focus of the following chapters will be mainly set upon violence that occurred during the latest conflict period, the second intifada (also called Al Aqsa intifada) which erupted in September 2000. Since the historical and political complexity of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict makes it difficult to view the different periods of conflict separately, a discussion on violence during the second intifada also needs to be contextualised in the conflict's history and its burdensome legacy of previous decades.
