This essay examines the important differences and parallels between retributive and restorative justice theoretical models. While typically portrayed as resting on opposite ends of a spectrum of justice system paradigms, when examined more closely, these two theories are not so far apart, as each demands accountability, proportionality in sentencing and attention to community satisfaction. A strategy by which restorative justice can progressively infiltrate the current retributive oriented justice system is offered.
