Website of the Month: Australian Institute of Criminology
The Director of the Australian Institute of Criminology (AIC), Adam Graycar, describes his organization as “a unique national organization, the work of which aims to explore, describe, and explain issues of public policy significance in crime prevention and criminal justice.”
The AIC website offers a wealth of information on a range of criminal justice issues through several sub sections.
The Restorative Justice sub-link offers summaries of both domestic and international perspectives on restorative justice. It contains links to full text documents covering all areas of restorative justice including research projects, conference papers, articles, and book chapters.
Other sections include:
AIC Research covers the areas of violent crime, sophisticated crime and property crime, public policy and drugs, data management, and crime analysis and modeling.
Publications disseminates research findings through and online library containing public policy papers and other publications.
Conferences lists announcements for conferences, seminars, and workshops which address all areas of criminal justice. Topics include the “best practice” approaches for dealing with victims, offenders, and aboriginal peoples. The page provides listing of both past and future conferences and full-text of papers presented.
These sections and amount of available information makes the Australian Institute of Criminology a treasure chest of information for researchers, policy makers, and anyone interested in the criminal justice system.
