The focus of this case study is on the South Oxnard Challenge Project in Ventura Count, California. This relatively new project is a probation program for juveniles; it is oriented around the broad ideals of community justice. As they present this program, the authors also provide a comprehensive overview of the community justice model. This theoretical framework has four cornerstones: accessibility; citizen involvement; restoration, and reintegration. The South Oxnard Challenge Project is surveyed in relation to these cornerstones. Acknowledging the challenges in applying community justice model, with the South Oxnard project as an example, the authors conclude with a section asking whether community justice goals are worth the effort.
