Participant Perspectives on Restorative Justice

Document Actions
Restorative justice processes can have a powerful impact on all those who participate - offenders, victims, and facilitators. The New Zealand Department of Courts has captured some of these stories in its newsletter for the Court Referred Restorative Justice pilot project started in 2001.
The five stories reprinted here provide a personal perspective on the impact of crime and the powerful impact of a restorative justice process. Three provide the voices of victims through the experience, with one telling why she decided to become a facilitator. One offers the story of an offender turned facilitator whose life changed after seeing the impact of crime on a friend. The remaining story tells of a facilitator's growth and motivation for participating restorative process.
