Website of the Month: Center for Restorative Justice & Peacemaking.
The Center for Restorative Justice & Peacemaking, at the University of Minnesota School of Social Work in St. Paul, seeks to advance restorative justice practice and principles by providing technical assistance, training, and research in Minnesota, the United States, and internationally.
A Videos page describes six videos that are available from the Center. Topics include restorative justice, victim empowerment, training in victim-offender mediation and conferencing, and dealing with cases involving severe violence.
For written resources, the Resources Available page contains links to an online library of articles (PDF format). Many of these are by Dr. Mark S. Umbreit, the executive director of the Center. The titles in the collection are arranged in three sections: Restorative Justice; Victim/Offender Mediation, Conferencing, Circles; and Research Findings. A highlight of the list is a 2003 article by Umbreit, Coates, and Voss, “ Restorative Justice Dialogue: Annotated Bibliography of Empirical Studies on Mediation, Conferencing and Circles.”
The resources page also links to a description of some of Dr. Umbreit’s books. There is a bibliography of his works, too, but the Center’s homepage contains a link to a more recent List of Publications by Dr. Umbreit & Colleagues. The homepage also lists recent additions made to the site in chronological order, and allows the user to register an email address in order to be notified when changes are made.
The People
page profiles the staff of the Center, which includes Ann Warner Roberts and
Vicki Griffin in addition to Dr. Umbreit. It also introduces the
Center’s family of associates, with email links for Senior Research
Associates Robert Coates and Betty Vos and Senior Training Associate Carolyn
McLeod.
