The Youth in Conflict with the Law (YCL) Project is a partnership between the Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa-Carleton and Carleton University’s Department of Sociology. The goal for the YCL Project is to help communities respond to youth crime in an integrated and holistic manner. This involves the use of alternative justice practices while building the capacities of young offender, victims, and communities. In reporting on the YCL Project, the authors of this paper cover the following topics: restorative justice and the YCL Project; YCP Project activities and findings (e.g., community development, case referrals, responding to case referrals, family support systems, and youth with complex needs); and community justice forums.
