This chapter grapples with the question of whether restorative justice is or can achieve a ‘feminist vision of justice’ as M. Kay Harris forecast. First, we consider the problems that feminists have identified with the criminal justice system. Second, we analyze the unique promises and problems of restorative justice in addressing the needs of girls and women as both victims and offenders. We do so by considering three key features of ideal restorative justice practice: that it provide a forum for narrative; depend upon and build community; and address cultural concerns. The ideological connections between feminist ethics and the restorative justice philosophy are explored alongside a grounded consideration of restorative features in practice. (excerpt)
