focal length of the lens also makes a difference. A wide-angle
lens is highly inclusive. It incorporates within the frame a
multitude of subjects, but it does so at the cost of a certain
distortion. Objects which are nearer become large, leaving objects
in the background small. Also, the shapes of objects at the corners
of the frame are altered. Circles become ellipses. |

A
telephoto lens is more selective. The scope of its vision is
narrower, incorporating fewer objects within the frame. It too
"distorts," but in a different way than a wide-angle
lens. With a telephoto lens, objects are larger but distances
are compressed. Objects appear closer to the camera -- and closer
to one another -- than they are to the naked eye. |
