From the original job posting: Join a reputable, first rate child welfare agency serving at-risk youth and their families through residential treatment, education, foster care and older adolescent programs. The Balanced and Restorative Justice Coordinator reports to the Director of Civic Engagement. Plans, coordinates, implements and facilitates various youth leadership and engagement programming including but not limited to Peer Conference, Peace Circles, Accountability Council, Family Advisory Council and Youth Advisory Committee. Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to complete documentation of client behaviors and actions utilizing the computer. Requires the ability to utilize both verbal and physical intervention with youth. Physical intervention requires the ability to kneel and return to standing without assistance. May travel to different agency sites to provide programming to clients. Flexible schedule required, including evenings and weekends. Must transport youth in agency vehicles.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plans, coordinates, implements, and facilitates various client accountability programming including, but not limited to, volunteer and service learning opportunities, Peer Conference, Peer Jury, Peace Circles, Accountability Council, Family Advisory Council, and Youth Advisory Committee in various agency programs, following the Balanced and Restorative Justice (BARJ) philosophy
- Communicates and corresponds effectively with clients and staff to ensure attendance and participation in programming throughout the agency
- Provides constant supervision of clients’ behaviors and interactions at all times during programming
- Encourages positive relationship building and socially acceptable habits and behaviors
- Accurately and formally documents client behaviors, progress, and program accountability
- Utilizes statistical data to formulate reports in conjunction with the Director of Performance and Quality Improvement
- Networks and builds relationships with external youth development programs and other community entities
- Participates in BARJ, Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPS), Regional Youth Advisory Board (RYAB), Statewide Youth Advisory Board and other meetings outside of the agency
- Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously with close attention to detail and prioritization to meet deadlines
- Uses creativity to expand youth development programming within the agency
- Establishes and maintains professional relationships with clients and staff and responds to problematic behaviors in accordance with methods established by the departmental and agency policies
- Upholds agency policies and procedures in accordance with departmental manuals
- Demonstrates a commitment to performance and quality improvement in all aspects of the position
- Has the ability to work effectively with clients and staff in a culturally diverse environment
- Attends all mandatory staff meetings and scheduled supervisions
- Demonstrated respect and interest in youth leadership and youth culture

- Assists in post-crisis response with youth, families, and staff
- Assists with intake process as needed
- Acts as an integral part of treatment team planning, participating in staffing, team meetings, and other events as needed
- Integrates social justice framework into all aspects of case management, leadership development, and life skills programming
- Completes other duties and responsibilities as assigned by designated supervisor
