Silvina Paz is a lawyer and mediator working to increase the use of penal mediation in Argentina.
Silvina is a mediator and lawyer working in Argentina. After graduating from the National University of La Plata, she undertook graduate study at the Law School of the Universidad Austral. Her dissertation   was “Politica Criminal, Victimologia, y Mediación Penal” (Criminal Policy, Victimology, and Penal Mediation).

In 1998, she began working for the Justice Department in the Province of Buenos Aires. Silvana created, organized and began operating the first penal mediation centre in the province. Silvina also provides mediation services for communities in conflict.

Aside from her professional work, Silvina and her sister, Silvana Paz, offer training workshops in negotiation, penal mediation, and methods for violence prevention. They have conducted trainings for the bar association, justice departments for provinces throughout Argentina, and the Catholic University of Temuco in Argentina. Silvina also plans to travel to Mexico to conduct workshops in penal mediation. Through all her work, Silvina tries to apply restorative principles.

Silvina has published published many articles in legal publications. At present, she and Silvana are writing a book on mediation with concentrations on family violence and youth.


Important Idea:


With the creation of the Penal Mediation Centre and and the Centre for the Care of Crime victims, we are finally working toward a policy of restorative justice in opposition to retributive justice, to an eye for and eye with the victim becoming a basic part and social peace the only objective.

Leading Edge.  Currently, Silvina is working within the criminal policy section of the Supreme Court of the province of Buenos Aires, to organize the use of penal mediation thoughout the province.
