Training Opportunities

A growing number of organizations are offering training in restorative practices and processes. The ones listed here are offered as a service to the users of Restorative justice Online, but inclusion should not be considered as an endorsement. Other organizations that regularly conduct training are invited to submit information and links.

Center for Justice and Peacebuilding, Eastern Mennonite University
The Cetner for Justice and Peacebuilding offers several opportunities for training in the area of restorative justice. These include a graduate program in conflict transformation and the Summer Peacebuilding Institute.
Center for Restorative Justice, Suffolk University
The Center for Restorative Justice provides evaluation services and a selection of training opportunities. We are interested in providing assistance to communities interested in exploring ways in which restorative thinking can be applied to their situations. Forum on Restorative Community Justice
The Forum on Restorative Community Justice organizes the Forum on Community Justice Academy. The website offers the following description of hte academy, "The Academy provides you with the opportunity to deepen your knowledge of restorative community justice and facilitates the development of practical skills in a variety of practices. Courses are geared toward individuals from various backgrounds including community members, faith community, mediators, professionals in criminal justice, corrections, human services, prevention, education and mental health. In other words, our courses can meet the needs of each person in our communities."
Fraser Region Community Justice Initiatives Association
CJI is a non-profit society based in Langley, British Columbia, Canada. The agency has more than 20 years of experience providing conflict resolution services within a Restorative Justice framework in such settings as the criminal justice system, workplace, community, institutions, organizations, churches, schools and businesses, and for private individuals. First organized through the efforts of Langley Mennonite Fellowship, CJI has grown into a multi-faceted organization that operates a number of programs and offers extensive training services. International Institute of Restorative Practices
The International Institute of Restorative Practice is a non-profit organization offering training and other services in support of the development of restorative practices.
International Restorative Justice Dialogue Training Institute
This programme is organized by the Center for Restorative Justice and Peacemaking at the University of Minnesota. According to the website, "the International Restorative Justice Dialogue Training Institute provides training for professionals and community volunteers in corrections and victim services."
Mediation UK
Mediation UK maintains a directory of trainers that can be accessed by site visitors. Also, the organizaiton will arranges restorative justice traiing for teams throughout the country. The training materials are based on the national occupational standards for restorative justice.
Restorative Justice Training Institute
This UK organization offers several training packages in restorative justice.
Restorative Solutions

Scottish Restorative Justice Consultancy and Training Service
The Scottish Restorative Justice Consultancy and Training Service provides services to Scottish institutions implementing restorative justice programmes throughout the country.
Victim Offender Mediation Association
The Victim Offender Mediation Association offers a training and technical assistance programme to its members. Two programme goals are to "Expand and deepen the practice of restorative justice dialogue and mediation processes" and "Increase access to training by practitioners and other interested persons." Community Mediation Center
The CMC offers training courses to individuals and groups. Training sessions are conducted in Harrisonburg, Virginia, on a scheduled basis or at business sites on a contractual basis. CMC certified training programs teach mediators to: master the number one and two communication allies— and paraphrasing; effectively develop powerful process skills used in mediation sessions; maintain emotional control in difficult situations ; write quality agreements that are easily interpreted by attorneys and all parties involved; and increase their abilities in handling complex sessions and multi-party disputes.
