What is Restorative Justice?

God calls us to act justly, which raises the questions, “What is justice”, and “What does it mean to act justly?” These are the questions we will explore in this study series. Prison Fellowship supports and promotes restorative justice reforms in the justice system. Restorative justice is an approach to understanding and responding to crime. In terms of understanding crime, restorative justice theory emphasizes crime as harm to people, relationships, and communities. In terms of responding to crime, restorative justice practice focuses on repairing the harm inflicted by crime on people, relationships, and communities, and on giving those directly affected by the crime the opportunity to determine what that repair will look like.

This 5-part study explores the elements needed for a reconciliation process.

Building Peace, Building Right Relationships

The PFI Centre for Justice and Reconciliation has prepared a 5-part study course entitled Building Peace, Building Right Relationships. It explores the Biblical understanding of peace. Lesson topics include: 1. Understanding peace in the Bible 2. Being a peacemaker when you have wronged someone 3. Being a peacemaker when someone has wronged you 4. Being a peacemaker when others are in conflict 5. Being a peacemaker in an unjust society. The study is suitable for individual reflection and for group discussion.
