Reform

Several governments in Latin America have adopted legislation or sponsored pilot projects to use restorative justice as an alternative to overcrowded courts and prisons.

National Reconciliation

Some Latin American countries have used Truth and Reconciliation Commissions to seek healing and reconstruction after periods of state-sanctioned violence. 

Civil Society

With high levels of violence and corruption in the justice system, civil society organizations in Latin America have initiated restorative programmes as an alternative to criminal or juvenile justice.
